Born in a middle-class family in Kottur, Shri G.M. Kotresh rose from humble beginnings with M.A. and M.S.W. qualifications to become a transformative educationist. He founded GMK Group of Institutions, GMK Financial Services and GMK Edu Tech with the mission that quality, modern, tech-enabled education should reach rural areas at an affordable cost, believing that "Education is not a donation, but a duty."
During the 2019 COVID pandemic, as Vice-President of GMK Foundation, he provided critical financial support to private school managements and teachers across Karnataka, distributing ₹5000/- per teacher to ensure livelihoods during lockdown. His commitment to teacher welfare and educational access has been unwavering.
In 2023-24/24-25, his institutions - Sri Gurukula Public School, Kottur and Sri Gnanaamrutha School, Hyderabad - received the prestigious "Best School of Excellence Award" at the Brainfeed Academic Conference. Through GMK Edu Tech Pvt Ltd, he continues to lead statewide initiatives empowering school leaders to build a stronger tomorrow.
The year 2024–2025 saw a historic first for Karnataka. Through the visionary leadership of Mr. G.M. Kotresh, the state proudly hosted its first distribution of the Best Management and Best Teacher awards, honoring excellence in the educational sector. The Hospet Education Expo, held on February 25, 2025, was successfully executed under the visionary direction of Mr. G.M. Kotresh. The initiative was widely recognized for its seamless organization and its impact on the local educational landscape.
